Kyoto: Heian Jingu and Kinkakuji

Here are some pictures of Kyoto. Heian Jingu is a shrine built in 1895 and has the largest torii/gate  in Japan.  It is considered the spiritual capitol of Japan.  Kinkakuji or Golden Pavillion Temple is actually named Rokuonji/Deer Garden Park.  It was built in 1397 as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.  His son turned it into a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect. It is covered, you guessed it, in gold. The pond is called Kyōko-chi or Mirror Pond.
